Maria Barwegen

Maria Barwegen is a dedicated educational leader specializing in developing content for experiential learning programs that incorporate lessons in Leadership, Character and Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) for high-achieving students. She is a skilled curriculum designer and facilitator, having led training sessions across the U.S. and internationally. (The Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation, Envision E.M.I., USA Today, Brandeis University, RUSH University Medical Center, Explore Theater)

Maria thrives in positions that are purpose driven, making a difference in the lives of others. Her experience includes particularly unique influences in medical education and educational theatre. She’s helped physicians, nurses and support staff dive deep into patient engagement and develop the intricate skills necessary to communicate with clarity, compassion and kindness. Her background working with learners in the medical field is balanced with 20 years in her personal life offering service as a family caregiver. She has provided valuable insight when training medical professionals to extend their highest selves in their interactions with patients. In educational theatre, Maria teaches through storytelling. She’s enthusiastic about what a student can learn about life through a character’s journey.

Maria’s diverse professional experience is only matched by her range of hobbies. She’s a constant photographer (with a love of pet photography), an even more constant singer, a theatregoer, a Chicago enthusiast, a voiceover artist, a gardener, a fitness instructor and one who wishes for more time in every day!
