How to Make the Honor Roll in Middle School
It’s important to know that it’s never too late or too early to stand out. If you are in middle school, you may not think you need to focus on grades as much, or getting the awards that older kids get. But it might be just the opposite. The earlier you really start to work hard, to prove to yourself and to others around you that you are smart and capable of great things, you will develop self confidence, support, and the determination you will need later in life to achieve your wildest dreams. At NSHSS Young Scholars, we believe every student, older or younger, should work as hard as they can. That is why, today, we are going to explore the benefits of making the honor roll in middle school.
What is the Honor Roll?

The honor roll is the name of a list of students who have achieved well academically in their school. This means that they are ranked among the top students across every class they take, whether it’s science, math, English, or history.

These students typically score an A or A-minus in all their classes, and their GPA is higher than the rest of the students in the same grade.

The honor roll might be ranked slightly differently in each school, depending on if it's a year-round, charter, private, public, or even home-schooled.

And, as expected, the size of your class can also be a factor in honor roll rankings.
Why Does It Matter?

The point of the honor roll is to help distinguish those students who work extra hard for their top grades. If you are able to get placed on the honor roll, this will be included in your records as you move into high school.

Your place on the honor roll gives you the chance to take what are known as AP, or Advanced Placement, classes as early as Freshman year of high school. These AP classes are much harder than regular high school classes, requiring more extensive reading and homework.

Despite the workload, these classes are a fantastic way to stand out in your future college applications.

An honor roll is also a chance to be considered for future scholarships.
Trying is The Point

It’s important to note that not every student will make the honor roll. This does not mean that the student isn’t worthy of it completely. There are a variety of reasons why a student might struggle in a certain area of their education. This could be a difficulty with learning math equations, paying attention to reading for English, or perhaps even falling behind in tardiness.

You should not fault yourself if don’t quite make the honor roll. Instead, we want to stress the importance of one simple factor: it is that you gave it your best shot.

No matter what obstacles we face in life, trying is the most important and necessary thing we can do. If you have dreams of making the honor roll, the only way to get close to achieving that dream is to try.
In the end, at NSHSS Young Scholars, we want to support your future in any way that we can. We understand that not everything works out the way any of us want it to. But that doesn’t mean we give up. If your name doesn’t make it on there, you can know that you did everything you could. Don’t lose that spirit and that determination. It may not get you where you wanted to go, but we assure you that it will carry you further than you can even imagine!
