What is a Book Report?
A book report is not a “rewrite” of the story the student has read, nor is it a book review. It is a summary that shows a student’s understanding of the book’s important events, characters, themes, and the author’s message. Teachers are looking for evidence that the student has read and understood the book.
With the presence of AI, students should only use AI for brainstorming or organizing ideas. This tool should not replace reading the book or writing the book report in their voice.
Read With Purpose Before Writing
Students who are intentional while reading will benefit later when they write their book report. Encourage your child to take notes, highlight important details, events, characters, and/or unfamiliar vocabulary, and label themes and conflicts.
