Frequently Asked Questions about Young Scholars
About Young Scholars
Young Scholars is a national recognition program for high-achieving students in grades 6–8.
Claes Nobel (1930-2021), a member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes, helped found NSHSS, the Young Scholars Parent Organization, in 2002 to continue his family's legacy of recognizing and rewarding contributions to world betterment. He believed the world leaders of tomorrow emerge from today's youth and that NSHSS is a platform for young leaders to receive the support needed to change their world. While Mr. Nobel passed away prior to the founding of Young Scholars National Honor Society, we believe that the vision of Young Scholars would very much align with the vision that Claes had for the world and its young people.
Young Scholars is an honor society specifically designed for middle schoolers that offers scholarships, recognition, and academic preparation.
Young Scholars are able to access scholarships, leadership resources, recognition, webinars, and more. Our parent dashboard equips parents with resources for academic planning.

If your student is in high school, take a look at what NSHSS has to offer - our high school parent organization provides many of the same resources as YSNHS with additional programming specific to high school students and beyond.

Scholarships are offered to students with a variety of interests and capabilities. Consider how closely your application aligns with the scholarship requirements. The number of applicants for each scholarship varies, so the most effective way to increase your chances of winning is to be selective and apply for scholarships best suited for you and your interests.
We encourage students to apply for any scholarship program that is a good fit and for which they are eligible. There is no limit to how many applications you can submit. As a rule, Young Scholars does not award more than one scholarship to the same applicant in any calendar year.
If your student becomes a scholarship recipient, your Young Scholars scholarship funds will be disbursed as follows:

Funds will be sent directly to the parent upon completion of a W-9 tax form.
For any additional questions about the disbursement process, please contact scholarship@young-scholars.org directly
Review for applications does not begin until after the program closes. Applicants are typically notified 6-8 weeks following each scholarship deadline. This may vary for each scholarship as we may rely on internal and/or external scholarship committees. All applicants are notified of the results via the email used to create their applications on their member dashboard. Please be sure to provide a valid email address to ensure you receive scholarship updates.
We appreciate your commitment to the application process. It's important to note that we cannot make any edits once the application deadline has passed. Our deadlines are carefully set to ensure a fair and organized review process for all applicants.
We highly recommend thoroughly reviewing your information before hitting that submit button to avoid errors or inaccuracies. However, we understand that sometimes unforeseen circumstances can arise, leading to critical mistakes or the need for additional information. If this happens, we have specific procedures in place to handle these scenarios and can guide us on how to proceed.
Young Scholars Scholarships are intended to be used to further a student's academic interests.

Young Scholars provides parents with information about a wide range of opportunities that align with their student's journey from middle school to high school, college and career. Eligible members are encouraged to apply for scholarships, and register for events, webinars, and more. Please note that applying for an opportunity does not guarantee an award or placement in a program. Space at events is often limited, and registration will close when capacity is reached.
Young Scholars activities are designed to enrich, inform, and diversify students’ experiences, though participation does not guarantee future success.
