In this Young Scholars webinar, students will learn how to properly cite sources when completing school projects, essays, presentations, and other research-based assignments. We’ll break down what citations are, why they matter, and when students need to give credit for information, ideas, quotes, images, and other materials.

Students will also learn the basics of MLA and APA citation styles, how to collect source information while researching, and how to avoid common citation mistakes. We’ll cover practical ways to use citation generators responsibly, evaluate whether a source is reliable, avoid plagiarism, and use a simple checklist to review citations before submitting a project.

Helena Coloma is a student at Harvard University, Class of 2026, and currently serves as the Vice President of Member Engagement on the NSHSS Collegiate Council Executive Board. She is also the Associate Director of MedNewsWeek, where she contributes to advancing accessible health and science communication.
